| ARGENTINA Argentina north to south is made up of wonderful Glaciers, mountain lakes, the jagged Andes and over 250 waterfalls. Buenos Aires is famed for shopping bargains, unique monuments and art museums, and of course, tango dance clubs, and some of the most exciting night life on the planet. Famed for football, Buenos Aires alone has 17 stadiums; Iguaza Falls and the surrounding jungle; the wine region of Mendoza; the nearby snow-capped Cerro Aconcagua, the continent's highest mountain; Salta City and the well-preserved colonial architecture; Mar Del Plata, the beautiful and popular vacation retreat on the Atlantic coastline, and then there's Patagonia. Patagonia includes Mt. Fitzroy; Perito Moreno National Park, one of the few places in the world to view an advancing glacier; the rugged island of Tierra del Fuego, separated from the mainland by the Strait of Magellan, and considered the (end of the world) as here sits Ushuaia, the southernmost town on the planet - and the gateway to Antarctica. Besides the landscape, Patagonia is known for all kinds of outdoor activities and adventures, including big game hunting and world-class fishing, horseback riding, rafting, sailing, power-boating, mountain climbing, golf, and don't forget skiing (June - September) as some of the best conditions anywhere are easily reached. And finally, the main cities of Argentina offer well-developed tourist facilities, and there's a wide variety of celebrations and festivals to enjoy. |
| Mar del Plata Although predominately known as a seaside resort, with miles and miles of sandy beaches and sports/water activities, along with fantastic panoramic views, there are also many museums such as the science and sea museums www.museodelmar.com. Neo-gothic churches and buildings of different architecture styles and designs. Entrance fees are approx. US$1 per adult and half for children. The large navel base and major fishing port is also home to the seals which you can view close up. Boat trips leave frequently during the summer with nightly excursions including dinner and dancing. An anglers' delight with fishing from the rocks and fishing trips widely available. You will be amazed at how many fish you can catch! Many coach trips are also available throughout the day to the many different local areas, including open top trips around Mar del Plata. For the young, there is a zoo, aqua park, aquarium, go-carting, bowling and many other activities. This city is geared for children - they are welcomed everywhere. 12.00 at night, you will find young children (including babies) eating in restaurants with their families. Baby-sitting does not seem to exist here. You will find the local children extremely well-behaved, as they are used to sitting in restaurants since birth! For the adults, there is the well known casino situated in the centre of Mar del Plata by the beach. Don't forget the many restaurants, cafes and buzzing nightlife of shows, clubs and discos to complete your day. Where else can you find shops open until 2 am (in the summer)!!! If you enjoy sea food, then the harbour restaurants are the best place to go - you will be spoilt for choice. There is also no shortage of street entertainment and free shows and concerts long the beach front and in the many different plazas throughout the day and night. Mar del Plata is also known for many sporting events and conventions including the National Film Festival and the National Sea Festival. Mar del Plata is well known for its sweater trade and has one street known as "the Avenue of Pullovers" where shop after shop after shop sells every kind of sweater imaginable and at prices lower than anywhere else. Mar del Plata has an excellent coach service with more than 50 companies linking to all major cities from the old central bus terminal.
