| General Information |
| One thing you will find very different, is that everybody says hello and expect a response. You will find that you will be doing a lot of kissing when you meet people, not just to say hello, but to say goodbye. Even the youngest children kiss hello and goodbye and even the waiters! Unlike the French, we only kiss one cheek. Meals are a major pastime here and are very leisurely. You don't need to order anything extra, you can just sit and chat, watch the TV if they have one or listen to the background music which varies greatly from place to place. Many places also have the daily newspapers and magazines to read. You will notice that they will not bring your bill unless you ask for it and not expect you to leave as soon as you have finished, even if there is a queue. Bring your laptop and use it in one of many wi-fi cafes or leave it at home and use internet cafes which are situated literally on every street corner. Cost from 30-50p per hour. Want to make a call, then pop into one of the many phone cabins, mostly situated within the Internet cafes, no need to run up your mobile phone bill. Remember the huge cleaning bills that hotels charge - well just drop your laundry into one of the many laundry shops and get back you washing at the end of the day washed, dried and folded so neatly, that most of it won't need ironing. This costs about £1.50 a machine. Pay extra and have it ironed also. I laugh when I read about the problems associated with "rubbish" in England. Here in Mar del Plata, they collect the rubbish six nights a week, including Christmas eve and New Years eve. Monday just gone was a bank holiday and I was not sure whether they would collect, but I put the rubbish out and hey presto, it was gone in the morning. All rubbish is collected around midnight - no interruption caused to traffic. They are implementing recycling schemes in certain areas and NO they are not going to collect fortnightly, three nights a week will be ordinary rubbish and three nights a week for recyclable goods - not an issue at all and no extra costs involved to the residents and street cleaners are seen regularly. |
