Restaurants, cafeterias and much more
One thing is for certain, you will never go hungry in
Mar del Plata.  Even visiting a different place for
breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner, you will never get
to visit every eatery!

Although Argentina is well known for it's meat, Mar
del Plata is also well known for it's seafood directly
off the fishing boats.

Where can you eat a three-course meal with soft
drinks, beer and wine for 6 pounds or less a person
including bread and table service.  In fact, you will
find it very difficult to spend more than 6 pounds
per head.

Regardless of what type of restaurant you visit, you
will find the menu caters for every type of palate.

Drinks are also very cheap and you will spend about
50p per soft drink and 1 pound for a large bottle of
beer (serves 2-3), all spirits are between 1-2 pounds
and coffees vary from 50p-1 pound.
Parrilla restaurants (specialists in Beef)

  • There is an abundance of parrilla restaurants, too many to list.
They bring the barbecue to your table so that the meats are still
cooking whilst you eat.  Two people can eat for about 5
pounds.  Four people can eat for about 10 pounds excluding
    drinks.

Italian restaurants

  • You will be spoilt for choice as many Argentines are of Italian
    descent - real home cooking.
  • Too many to list.

Pizza restaurants (specialists) - you can eat Pizza 24 hours a day (not
only take away, but sitting down.

  • 2 pounds for a large margarita pizza
  • 1 pound for a small pizza

Fish restaurants

  • This is an amazing concept - you can eat as much as you like
including, salads, hot and cold starters, freshly cooked pasta
with sauces, all types of beef, including large steaks, all types of
chicken including grilled chicken breasts and chicken quarters,
sausages, pork and lamb.  All freshly prepared on the grill in
front of you.  In case you are still hungry and have divulged all
the bread on the table, why not try one or all of the many
tempting desserts and if you don't like cold desserts, such as
fresh fruit salad and cream, chocolate pudding, creme caramel,
how about a freshly made pancake to order.  All this for about 2
pounds a person and no limit as to how many times you go to
the grill or the buffet tables.  It really is eat as much as you
    like!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Empanadas - an argentine special - similar to pasties with different
fillings.

  • These are available in most restaurants, but they also have
specialist places.  Empanadas are very big in Argentina - a bit
like fish and chips in England.
  • Cost about 30 pence each - three are normally enough per
    person.

Don't want to cook, but don't want to eat out?  How about trying one
of the many freshly cooked hot take away food venues (salads also
available).  Very busy, especially in the summer when people want to
eat properly on the beach.  Very cheap.

Fresh pasta shops - too many to list.

  • will deliver any types of pasta and sauces - ring 1-2 hours in
    advance (30p delivery charge).
  • will deliver hot freshly prepared individual Italian dishes (approx.
    2 pound a dish).

Most restaurants will deliver home, even one dish, for a small delivery
charge of about 30p.  You can even order ice-cream, desserts and
cakes to be delivered home.

Coffee shops/confiterias - not to be missed

  • Once again, there are too many to list, but they are a cake lovers
    delight.
  • Everything in the well known confiterias is home made,
    including the chocolates.
  • Order one portion per person and you will find it very difficult to
finish.  A portion of cake enough to feed 2 adults, costs about
    1.50 pound.
  • Also light meals available
  • Open to late all year round - in summer until about 4 am.

Ice-cream parlours - Argentina is paradise for ice-cream lovers.

  • The variety of flavours is unbelievable and too long to display.
  • Small cones from 60p up to 90p and the small cones are NOT
    small.
  • Open until late all year round and until 4 am in the summer.
  • Free cold water available also.

If you are unable to find something to eat, the last resort is

they are always busy, although they are considered expensive for
here.
